6 minute guide · Battery programs

Questions to ask about battery programs—before the headline distracts you.

Program settings can change. A useful battery decision still begins with the household, existing solar, quote scope and current official information.

Verification first: program eligibility, certificate calculations, approved equipment and rules can change. This guide deliberately avoids current dollar figures and does not determine eligibility.

Check the official program page at quote time

The Australian Government publishes the current Cheaper Home Batteries Program information, while the Clean Energy Regulator administers the certificate process. Ask which official page and version were used for the proposal.

Confirm the system and property eligibility

Do not infer eligibility from a headline or an old article. Ask the installer to confirm the current rules that apply to the property, installed solar, battery equipment, installation timing and certificate claim.

Keep the battery purpose in view

Start with what storage should achieve: evening use, tariff management, backup, future EV charging or another clearly defined goal. A program can affect proposal treatment, but it does not decide battery capacity, available power or backup scope.
